Disadvantages
We are all familiar with alcohol wipes and many of us probably use them several times a day. Alcohol wipes are useful for everything from cleaning up messes to sanitizing surfaces. However, alcohol is a harsh substance and is not only bad for some surfaces, but unsafe for young children and pets. Alcohol wipes can also be corrosive on hands, robbing them of their natural moisture.
“Aqua, alcohol denat, propylene glycol, cetearyl isononanoate, ceteareth-20, cetearyl alcohol, glyceryl stearate, glycerine, cetyl palmitate, ceteareth-12, Chamomilla recutita, parfum, allantoin, myrtrimonium bromide, laurtrimonium bromide, bisabolol, methylparaben, butlparaben, disodium phosphate, sorbic acid, diazolidinyl urea, PEG-40 hydrogenated castor oil, trideceth-9, benzoic acid”
Those are the ingredients for one thing that’s becoming more and more common nowadays – alcohol wipes! Wipes have become an increasingly popular trend nowadays. When you feel a little grimy, want to remove that make up, the first thing you reach for is a wipe.
Wipes are made from plastic, cellulose, and polyester fibers, pressed together and then soaked in a cleaning fluid, which contains about 90% alcohol. Ever wonder if there are so many advantages, could they have any disadvantages as well? Well the answer is, yes! Gasp, shock, horror! Nevertheless, it is true. Alcohol wipes do have their disadvantages.
First Disadvantage of alcohol wipes: They are expensive. Do you honestly need that extra $10 out of your budge in these tough economic times? So, next time you go to reach for those wipe packs, think about cost factor, and instead pick up a bottle of antibacterial soap instead.
Second Disadvantage of alcohol wipes: They take a long time to biodegrade, and most of the wipes you’ve used are probably still underground somewhere. The environmental impact of this has never been researched, but you can bet your bottom dollar (the one you saved from not buying those wipes), that it’s a lot!
Third Disadvantage of alcohol wipes: Ever thought about why people drink alcohol, instead of rubbing it on themselves? Yeah, that’s right, because often when denatured alcohol – which is used in most of them, comes in contact with your skin regularly, causes dry and irritated skin. Guess what that causes? You’re right, infections.
So I guess that added chamomile extract isn’t going to help after all, is it?
As you can see alcohol wipes have their disadvantage, but overall, if used moderately and properly the benefits definitely outweigh the harms.
